In its first game of the ECAC Cape Cod Tournament against Brown University on Saturday, Sept. 11, the Villanova University women's soccer team defeated the Bears, 3-1, in a game played at Dennis Yarmourth High School in Cape Cod. With the victory, the Wildcats remained undefeated at 4-0-0 on the season.
One game after combining for six points in a victory over La Salle on Sept. 8, senior Lauren Sellers and freshmen Quinn Sellers (of no relation), led the Villanova offense yet again. Just under six minutes into the game, Lauren Sellers scored her fifth goal of the season to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead.
At the 61:01 mark of the second half, Lauren Sellers did it again scoring her second goal of the game and sixth of the season to increase the Villanova lead to 2-0. With 9:58 left in regulation, the Wildcats padded their lead to 3-0 on a Quinn Sellers goal assisted by Lauren Sellers. Brown would score its first goal 1:59 later, but it was too late for the Bears as Villanova won 3-1.
Getting the victory in goal for the 'Cats was sophomore Janel Schillig, who saved 12 shots on the day. Schillig now has 35 saves in Villanova's first four games and has given up only three goals.
The Wildcats will resume play on Sunday, Sept. 12, against Northeastern in their the second game of the ECAC Cape Cod Tournament at 2:30 p.m.
