Villanova Men's Soccer Ousted by Princeton

Oct. 20, 1999

Princeton, N.J. --- The Villanova University men's soccer team took to the road tonight for a non-conference clash with the Princeton Tigers of the Ivy League. Although the game was much closer than the score would indicate, the Wildcats lost 3-0 to the Ivy's first place team. The defeat dropped Villanova to 2-12-0 on the season, while Princeton upped their mark to 8-3-1 in 1999.

The contest was scoreless until 43:39 into the first half when Princeton's Brien Wassner snuck behind the Wildcat defense for a break-away that left him with only freshman goalkeeper Sean Teesdale to beat. Wassner put home the goal and the Tigers took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

The second half saw Villanova narrowly miss on a number of excellent scoring opportunities, including two shots by junior Joe Noonan that went wide by less than a foot. The home team tacked on two late goals to increase their margin to 3-0.

One key to the contest was the absence of three of Villanova's starters due to yellow card violations. All-Big East second team performer Jim Curtin, third-leading scorer Dave Francalangia, and starting defender Stephen Leaman were all out of action for the 'Cats.

The Wildcats' next game will be at home on Sunday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. versus Big East rival Connecticut.
