Cheerleading Nationals
The Villanova Cheerleading team competes at the UCA College Nationals competition in Orlando, Florida each January. In the past, the team has competed in D1 small co-ed. During the 2018 & 2019 seasons, the Villanova Cheerleading team has competed in the D1 small all-girl division.
Part of the competition involves submitting a tape, where we are scored on our crowd-leading and community involvement. The score received on our tape then contributes to our routine score.
The small all-girl routine consists of 5 all-girl stunt groups. These groups work together to perform partner stunts, baskets, and pyramids.
During the 2018-2019, the cheerleading team went on to place 7th in their division, while competing in the small all-girl division for the first time. Most recently, the team placed 5th in their division.
Mascot Nationals
Will D. Cat competes in the annual UCA Mascot National Championship. In order to be eligible to compete, Will must submit a highlight reel of events and moments from the current year. Once the video is compiled and submitted by the students on the mascot team, it is judged and given a score out of 50. Each year, the top 5 videos from the Open Division are chosen to continue to compete in Orlando, FL for a national championship.
The competition in Orlando is based on creating an original skit complete with handmade props and soundtrack to showcase a mascot's character development, creativity, and ability. The skit is judged and given a score out of 50. The original video score is added to the score in Orlando in order to determine the National Champion.
Will D. Cat has gone to compete in Orlando in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020. He is a two-time fan favorite award winner. This past year Will D. Cat was awarded first place in the Open Division earning him his first National Championship!
