VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova women's tennis team fell to BIG EAST opponent St. John's, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
The Wildcats earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Lauren Monti and
Jenna Stevens picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 2, while
Olivia Corcoran and
Miriam Gondorova secured the point with a 7-5 win at No. 3.
In singles play, St. John's responded by taking five of six matches to secure the team victory.
Maggie Gehrig provided Villanova's lone singles point, rallying after dropping the first set to earn a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position.
Olivia Corcoran fell in straight sets at No. 1, while
Miriam Gondorova battled to three sets before coming up short at No. 3.
Jenna Stevens,
Lauren Monti, and
Alina Kornyeva each dropped straight-set decisions at their respective positions.
