'Cats Capture Road Victory at Delaware on Saturday

Villanova gets multi-point outings from six Wildcats in 12-7 win

NEWARK, Del. – Villanova men's lacrosse snapped a two-game losing streak with a second road victory of 2026, taking down the Delaware Blue Hens 12-7 on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.

Luke Raymond contributed a team-high four points for Villanova (2-2) on three goals and an assist while David Link, Dan Martin and Colin Michener each added two scores.

Ryan Martin put up his first career goal in the contest, Quinton Cepiel pitched in his first goal of the season and Jake Melchionni added VU's first pole goal of the year in addition to a game-best nine ground balls. Nolan Sabel also tallied a season-high three assists and Lucas Newton added two helpers.

Denis Fargione made six saves as the winning goalkeeper, Michael Berkery caused a career-best two turnovers and Ryan Cunningham won seven faceoffs for the 'Cats in the win.

Link started the game's scoring in the first quarter off an assist from Newton and the game's next eight minutes only saw a pair of Blue Hen goals. Raymond responded by burying a pair of goals within a minute, giving the 'Cats a 3-2 edge after one.

The first 10 minutes of the second came and went without any tallies, but with 4:01 left it was R. Martin converting a feed from Sabel for his first career goal. The older Martin brother Dan hammered home a goal of his own a bit over a minute later, granting the 'Cats a 5-2 lead at the half.

Cepiel began the second half's scoring on a man-up chance, putting home a Sabel pass to give Villanova five goals in a row. The Blue Hens scored twice to follow that before D. Martin pounded home another righty rip, then C. Michener got on the board to make it 8-5 Villanova after 45 minutes.

Melchionni scored VU's first pole goal of the year to start the fourth quarter, then Link struck again off an assist from Gavin Michener. Raymond converted an unassisted tally for a hat trick before C. Michener put home a Kessy Cox feed for a four-goal run and seven-score edge. Delaware managed two goals to close the contest, but the Wildcats left The First State with a 12-7 victory.

The win moves VU to 14-7 all-time against the Blue Hens, also giving head coach Mike Corrado his 12th victory over Delaware.

UP NEXT: It's a quick turnaround for the 'Cats, who will play their first midweek match of the season at Drexel on Tuesday.
