SPARKS, Md. -- Two Wildcats were named on the USA Lacrosse Division I Men's Preseason All-Americans list on Tuesday with
Jake Melchionni earning a Third Team spot while
Jack Shoemaker picked up an Honorable Mention accolade.
The pair of Villanova long poles each received mention on the 84-player list, with the 'Cats being one of just 31 institutions represented and 16 schools with multiple selections.
Melchionni earned the Third Team spot at long stick midfielder after picking up Honorable Mention All-America from a number of publications last year. The New Jersey native put up nearly 50 ground balls and 25 turnovers a year ago, scoring eight goals including a multi-goal outing against Marquette.
Shoemaker was one of 10 defensemen to pick up Honorable Mention honors on Tuesday for the first All-America accolade of the senior's career. The 6-foot-1 long pole has appeared in all 46 games during his time on the Main Line, unanimously earning All-BIG EAST First Team last year.
Melchionni, Shoemaker and the Wildcats start off their 2026 campaign in early February with a trip to State College for a matchup against in-state rival Penn State.
