VERMILLION, S.D. – Villanova volleyball suffered a defeat in its Friday match, falling in straight sets (18-25, 21-25, 18-25) to the Drake Bulldogs at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Campbell McKinnon totaled a match-high 12 kills on .529 hitting for Villanova (8-2) as Alyssa Nelson posted 19 assists to lead all participants and Abby Harrell added nine terminations.
Mina Diggs tied for the match-best with a career-high eight digs in her first collegiate start and Emma Vu contributed her Villanova high with 11 helpers.
Drake was the aggressor early in the first, jumping out to a lead of 7-2 and growing it to 17-10 before finishing off the frame as a 25-18 victory.
It was a more even start to the second stanza as there were four ties up until the Bulldogs rattled off a 10-4 string to go up by six. The Wildcats clawed their way back to trail by just a pair, but Drake re-grouped and finished it for a 25-21 ending to the period.
The third was much like the first as the Bulldogs once again sped out to a lead and kept the momentum the rest of the way, completing the sweep with another 25-18 win.
