Field Hockey Blanks La Salle In Home Win

'Cats Best Explorers 3-0 In Home Opener Friday

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova field hockey team earned a commanding 3-0 victory over La Salle on Friday, September 12, at the Villanova Field Hockey Complex.

Despite a scoreless first half, the Wildcats dictated the pace of play and dominated possession. Villanova outshot the Explorers 6–1 in the opening 30 minutes and earned four penalty corners while holding La Salle without a single attempt.

The breakthrough came early in the third quarter when Evelyn O'Neil found the back of the cage just two minutes into the half off a setup from Barrett Trigg. Less than five minutes later, freshman Aimme Largoza doubled the lead with a rocket for her first career goal. With under five minutes remaining, Colleen Finnan sealed the win, finishing a well-placed assist from Gemma Lysaght to make it 3-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Sophie Volkel earned her first career start and delivered a shutout performance, recording two saves to secure both her first win and clean sheet.

Head coach Millhous praised the team's effort and highlighted the milestones:
"Really cool—first start and first career shutout for Sophie, which is fantastic. And Aimee's first career goal was amazing. I think we played really well in the first half, but we didn't get on the board. Our focus in the second half was to show our strength and capitalize, and it was nice to see the goals come. Maeve Boston had a fantastic game—she distributed the ball beautifully and created a lot of scoring opportunities."

Up Next: Villanova travels to Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 14, for a 12:00 p.m. matchup. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
