FH Falls In Overtime At Hofstra

'Cats Lose To Pride 2-1 In OT Sunday

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Villanova field hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 overtime decision to Hofstra on Sunday, September 14.

The Wildcats struck first just three minutes into the game when Colleen Finnan found the back of the cage, assisted by Addie Froehlich and Molly Zimmerman. Hofstra answered late in the opening quarter, capitalizing on a penalty corner to even the score at one apiece.

From there, the defenses took over. Both teams generated opportunities through corners and shots on goal, but neither could break through during regulation. Villanova dictated much of the play, but struggled to finish its chances. Freshman goalkeeper Sophie Volkel delivered another strong performance, recording seven saves on nine shots faced to keep the Wildcats in contention.

The game headed into overtime knotted at 1-1, but Hofstra secured the win about five minutes into the extra period on a penalty stroke.

"It's frustrating," head coach Joanie Millhous said. "We controlled most of the play, but we couldn't score. Definitely a disappointing game."

Up Next: Villanova returns home on Friday, Sept. 19, for a 3:00 p.m. matchup against No. 6 UConn to open up BIG EAST play. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
