Hoyas Give The 'Cats Their First Conference Loss

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Villanova women's lacrosse will bring home their first BIG EAST loss of the 2025 season, after being taken down 9-13 on Wednesday evening. They are now 8-4,2-1 BE.

The Wildcats had a slow start with only one goal in the first, but came back and scored four in the fourth. 

Sami Carey led the team with 7 assists and Sydney Pappas grabbed a hat trick. On defense, Juliet Walls had three caused turnovers with Skylar Nixon and Pappas both having two. Emma Verhoest had five draw controls. In goal, Cate Gallagher saved seven shots.

In the first quarter, the Hoyas went on a four goal run before Pappas was put a stop to it with the help of Carey.

With seven minutes left in the second quarter, Elena Torres scored the first goal off a free position. Georgetown scored but not before Leslie Iorio could find the back of the net for her first time today catching a pass from Carey with 15 seconds left. The score was 3-5 Hoyas going into the second half.

Georgetown earned a free position and scored a minute into the third.  Carey was able to find Hickey cutting to the goal, Hickey found the back of the net, putting the 'Cats down by two. Pappas scored her second goal off a pass from Carey. At the end of the quarter the Hoyas led 9-5. 

Carey found Jillian Vaught cutting to the goal, twice to put the Wildcats 7-9 behind the Hoyas. Iorio was able to score one more time with the help of Hickey. With five minutes left to play, the duo of Carey to Pappas struck again, giving Pappas her third goal of the game and putting the 'Cats the closest they have been all game at 9-10. Unfortunately the Hoyas were able to score three more times before the end of the game.

The Wildcats will host Marquette this Sunday at 12pm.
