RALEIGH, N.C.—Villanova wrapped up three days of competition at the Raleigh Relays with fast times in the 200 meters, 400 meter hurdles and 800 meters at Paul Derr Track on Saturday afternoon. After strong results in the 800 meters for the second straight week, the Wildcats middle distance group accounts for four of the top seven and seven of the top 12 runners on the BIG EAST descending order list through the first two weeks of the outdoor season.
Fifth year collegian
Lizzie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) led a cadre of Villanovans in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.63 on Saturday afternoon. She was followed by
Bella Walsh (Middletown, Del.) who recorded a PR in the 800 meters for the first time in her collegiate career. Walsh crossed the line in 2:08.32 one day after she lowered her PR in the 1500 meters on Friday. The duo of Martell and Walsh now rank third and fourth, respectively, in the BIG EAST on the young season.
It was also another strong outing for
Rosie Shay (Middletown, N.J.) who continues to impress in her collegiate rookie season. Shay posted a time of 2:09.18 in Saturday's race, while junior
Micah Trusty (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded a time of 2:09.70 and newcomer
Lucy Moran (Branford, Conn.) tallied a mark of 2:17.25.
The sprint trio of sophomore
Olivia Allen (Kingwood, Texas), sophomore
Ajanae Thompson (Rahway, N.J.) and junior
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) were all in action for the second straight day. Allen ran in the fast heat of the 400 meter hurdles and recorded a time of 1:01.49 in her first race in that event this season. She is the defending BIG EAST champion in the 400 hurdles and owns a PR of 59.75. Allen was fresh off recording a PR in the 400 meters for a fourth consecutive race when she was clocked in 54.70 on Friday.
Thompson and Jackson recorded times of 24.84 and 24.92, respectively, in the 200 meters. They were each in action for the second straight day after running the 400 meters yesterday. The pair moved into fourth place and a tie for fifth place on the BIG EAST performance list.
Senior thrower
Alex Payne (Silverdale, Wash.) was also in action on Saturday and opened her outdoor season with a distance of 51.00 meters in the hammer throw.
