OMAHA, Neb. – The final road match of the season awaits for Villanova volleyball as the Wildcats head to the Cornhusker State for a Friday night feature.
Villanova (18-6, 9-4 BIG EAST), who owns a BIG EAST-best nine road wins this year, travels to DJ Sokol Arena for an 8:30 p.m. Eastern matchup with the No. 12 Creighton Bluejays.
HANDLED THE HOYAS
It was a highly successful start to the week's slate for the Wildcats as they picked up a critical win over Georgetown on Wednesday night for a season sweep of the Hoyas. Villanova dominated the visitors for the first VU sweep since Oct. 3, helping the chances of a conference tournament berth as GU was fifth in the league entering Jake Nevin Field House. The Wildcat setters carved up the Hoyas with Alyssa Nelson contributing more assists (24) than Georgetown's entire team (23) despite only playing half the rotations. Abby Harrell had the match's only double-digit kill outing (16) and Taylor Lewis played error free with nine terminations and .600 hitting.
'CATS IN THE STATS
The impressive season for the Wildcats has come thanks to a well-balanced team, both individually and across different statistical categories. The VU offense has received important contributions from six separate attackers to rank second in the league for kills per set and third for hitting percentage while the defense ranks top five in digs (fourth) and blocks (fifth). Villanova has also used a 6-2 offense to its advantage this season, allowing the 'Cats to be first in the league for assists (12.91 per set). Individually, Campbell McKinnon and Reagan McGivern are top 10 in the BIG EAST for both hitting and blocks plus Harrell is third in kills and seventh for aces.
CHRONICLING CREIGHTON
- The Bluejays are scorching hot in conference play, owning victories in their last 14 contests with a 12-0 BIG EAST record and all five losses on the season coming against Top 25 teams.
