Women's Swimming and Diving Bring Home Two Wins

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Villanova men's team fell to West Virgina while the women's team picked up two wins on Saturday. Men finished 52.5-247.5. The Women scored 184.5-115.5 against Duquesne and 160-140 against West Virgina.
 
The Wildcats started the meet with strong finishes in the 1650 free. Patrick Casey swam 15:53.96 helping him secure second place and a new personal best. Owen Nye was close behind him in third with a time of 15:56.35. Peri Gaguzis took second for the women touching the wall at 16:57.00.
 
Both teams had a top finish in the 200 medley relay. The women grabbed first clocking 1:42.95 with efforts from Alana Leen, Winnie Jalet, Anna Farley and Lainey Quinones. The men took third with quartet of Cole Gorsuch, Mikey Thurk, Zach Sutter and Kaden Elkovitch swimming 1:32.93.
 
Nicholas Jubilee swept third place in both the 1 meter dive and 3 meter dive. In the 1 meter he scored 275.60 and 297.45 in the 3 meter.
 
The 'Cats showed up well in the butterfly. The 200 fly first place went to Justin Nowicki touching the wall at 1:49.31. Meghan Tiernan swam 2:00.23 pushing her into second place with Katie White closely behind at 2:00.84. In the 100 fly, Farley claimed first with a time of 54.15. In second place is Arabella Lee and her time of 54.80.
 
Tiernan and Farley also had top finished in the 200 IM. Meghan swam 2:02.87 earning her first place. Anna secured third and a time of 2:03.37.
 
Max Christensen touched the wall at 2:04.88 in the 200 breast, where he finished third. Annie Honkamp took second with her time of 2:17.42. In the 100 breast, Jatel clocked 1:03.73 helping her claim second place.
 
The Wildcats were well represented in the freestyle. In the 200 free, Riley Kudlac swam 1:49.26, this time gave her first place and a new personal best. She also claimed first in the 50 free touching the wall at 50.34.
 
In the 200 free, second place was earned by Martina Lonati and her time of 1:51.27, Gavin Peck finished second for the men swimming 1:40.81. Less than a second behind him is Gavin Jones and his time of 1:41.51.
 
Lexi Elkovitch swam 23.50 in the 50 free, where she tied for second with Duqesne's Kaitlyn Connors. Lonati reached third in the 500 free when she touched the wall at 4:55.88.
 
The women had relay team A and B finish first and second in the 400 free relay.  Team A of Lonati, Kudlac, Quinones and Elkovitch swam a time of 3:24.67 and claiming first. Swimming 3:30.02 was Alyssa McHale, Amylia Higgins, Marlene Blanke and Leen, helping them earn second.
 
The Men will travel to face Drexel on the 31st.
