CORAL GABLES, Fla.—Senior thrower
Nick Coffey (Cranston, R.I.) recorded the 10
th-longest throw in school history in the javelin to highlight the Day 2 performance for Villanova at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The two-day meet at Cobb Stadium wrapped up with the Wildcats having success in the sprints and throws.
Men's Javelin
Coffey threw for a distance of 65.46 meters and finished third in Saturday's competition. He increased his distance from his season opener two weeks ago by nearly two full meters and maintained his hold on the top of this year's BIG EAST performance list. Coffey ranks 26
th in the East region and his throw ranks as the 10
th-longest in the Villanova record book with the current implement which was introduced before the 1999 season. Coffey owns four of the 11 longest throws by a Wildcats athlete since then. His lifetime PR of 67.90 meters came in Miami last season.
Senior
Justin Miller (Collierville, Tenn.) made his season debut in the javelin and threw for a distance of 50.22 meters. He increased his distance on three consecutive throws, including his third attempt of the day which put him into ninth place and qualified him for the final round of throws. Each of his final two attempts topped 50 meters. Miller had been in competition on Friday afternoon when he registered a season best mark of 6.95 meters in the long jump.
400 Meter Hurdles
Senior sprinter
Nicholas Mollica (Jackson, N.J.) and sophomore
Luke Rakowitz (Dallas, Texas) rank third and fourth on this year's BIG EAST performance list after they each posted season best times on Saturday. Mollica came in sixth out of 20 athletes in the hurdles with a time of 53.40, followed by Rakowitz who recorded a personal best mark of 56.09. Later in the day, they each ran legs of the Wildcats first place 4x400 meter relay which had a time of 3:11.98.
100 Meters / 200 Meters
Sophomore
Amiri Prescod (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago) moved into the top eight on this year's BIG EAST performance list in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. He posted a time of 10.68 in the 100 meters and later a time of 21.76 in the 200 meters. The competition was the outdoor season debut for Prescod, who won his first career BIG EAST title indoors in the 60 meters earlier this year.
400 Meters / 4x400 Meter Relay
Villanova was led by sophomore
Jimmy Milgie (Wildwood, Mo.) and senior
Jakob Kunzer (George Town, Grand Cayman) who registered times of 48.69 and 49.00, respectively. They later joined with Mollica and Rakowitz to form the Wildcats lineup in the 4x400 relay. Mollica led off the race and was followed by Milgie, Rakowitz and Kunzer on the final three legs. Kunzer had a split of 47.76 on the anchor leg.
This quartet, in the same order, ran two 4x400 relays during the indoor season and recorded times of 3:12.81 and 3:15.16. Saturday's time of 3:11.98 ranks second in the BIG EAST on the year and is less than half a second behind the conference lead held by DePaul (3:11.53).
