STORRS, Conn. – Villanova women's lacrosse suffered its second loss of the BIG EAST slate, falling 16-6 to the Connecticut Huskies on Wednesday afternoon.
Five different players found the back of the net for Villanova (5-7, 1-2 BIG EAST) with Sydney Pappas striking twice as both Mary Moore (one goal, two assists) and Ashlyn Hickey (one goal, one assist) each put forth multiple points.
Makenzie Fisher made eight saves between the pipes while Maddy Stoddard caused three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.
The hosts got out to a quick start in the matchup with seven of the contest's first eight goals, the only VU tally in that stretch coming on a free position twister by Moore. Hickey converted a Sami Carey feed with just 37 seconds to go in the opening period, but the 'Cats still trailed 7-2 at the first quarter break.
Connecticut put home the first three tallies of the second frame but Villanova responded with the last two of the half as Cara Moreau and Pappas each fired assisted tallies past the keeper for a 10-4 halftime score.
Two UConn goals began the third period before a pair of VU conversions in less than two minutes, Pappas turning around a Moore feed and Sophia Corretjer beating the netminder with an unassisted effort. The Huskies added two more before the end of 45 minutes, taking a 14-6 edge after three.
The home side scored the only goals of the final quarter, striking with just under six minutes left before the game's last score at 1:13 for a 10-goal Connecticut victory.
