Alex Payne (Silverdale, Wash.) and first year collegian
Olivia Allen (Kingwood, Texas) moved up on the all-time Villanova performance list in their respective events as the Wildcats closed out two days of competition at the Virginia Challenge with several outstanding performances at Lannigan Field on Saturday afternoon. Payne recorded the seventh-longest hammer throw in school history and Allen moved into the program's all-time top-10 in the 400 meter hurdles.
The first event of the day was women's hammer and Payne tallied her best performance of the season on her first throw. She registered a distance of 53.56 meters to move up to third in the BIG EAST this season. Payne's throw is the seventh-longest in the Villanova record book and moved her up from sixth to fourth overall on the Wildcats all-time performance list.
Allen took over the BIG EAST lead in the 400 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:00.78. Her previous PR had been 1:01.52 in this year's season opener at UCF last month, while her new mark on Saturday not only elevates her to the top of the BIG EAST performance list but also puts her into 10
th place in school history.
It was a good day overall for the Villanova sprint group as the duo of
Ajanae Thompson (Rahway, N.J.) and
Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.) posted personal best times in the 200 meters. Thompson crossed the finish line in 24.78 and Livingston registered a time of 24.91, marking the first time in their careers that either runner broke 25 seconds. Earlier in the day, Livingston had been the runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.68 and Thompson finished with a time of 14.18. Sophomore
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) posted a time of 25.45 in the 200 meters.
Senior high jumper
Roschell Clayton (Montego Bay, Jamaica) was in action for the second time during the outdoor season and she tallied a first place finish with a successful clearance at 1.80 meters. First year student-athlete
Malaika Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) recorded a mark of 1.67 meters on the day.
In other field events, fifth year thrower
Adria Retter (Quakertown, Pa.) registered distances of 47.37 meters in the hammer and 13.85 meters in the shot put. She tied her best mark of the outdoor season in the shot put and was followed by fifth year collegian
Jordan Williams (Fresno, Calif.) with a mark of 13.73 meters. Senior long jumper
Caroline Carlson (Miami, Fla.) measured a distance of 5.36 meters on her best attempt of the day.
