CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—First year collegian
Tilly O'Connor (Spring Lake, N.J.) recorded a personal best time in the 1500 meters for the second straight week as Villanova opened two days of competition at the Virginia Challenge on Friday afternoon. O'Connor was one of seven athletes in competition for the Wildcats at Lannigan Field and recorded a seventh place finish in her race.
In her second 1500 meter race of the season last week at Princeton, O'Connor recorded what was then a personal best mark of 4:28.23 in the elite section of the event. She lowered that time by more than two seconds on Friday to finish with a time of 4:26.00 in the fastest heat of the night. O'Connor finished seventh overall out of 46 runners who competed in the 1500 meters.
Two other track races were on Villanova's event schedule Friday afternoon. Sophomore sprinter
Micah Trusty (Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a time of 56.12 in the 400 meters and classmate
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) tallied a time of 57.82. Earlier in the afternoon
Lore Olakunle (Elkridge, Md.) recorded a season best time of 12.65 in the preliminary heats of the 100 meters.
Fifth year thrower
Adria Retter (Quakertown, Pa.) and junior
Faith Haught (Payson, Ariz.) each registered strong marks in the discus. Retter finished with a mark of 47.36 meters and Haught recorded a throw of 45.23 meters. The performances came after both athletes tallied their best marks of the season last weekend. Senior javelin thrower
Teresa Rotolo (Warren, N.J.) registered a mark of 32.29 meters to conclude the first day of competition.
Villanova's event schedule on Saturday begins with women's hammer at 10 a.m. while the first event on the track is the 100 meter hurdles at 2 p.m.
