PRINCETON, N.J.—Sophomore sprinters
Sal Barretta (Whitestone, N.Y.) and
Ronan O'Neill (Wilmette, Ill.) recorded personal best times in the 400 meter hurdles as Villanova wrapped up two days of competition in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The event schedule for the day included five individual track races, two relays and three field events amidst cool and blustery conditions.
Barretta and O'Neill made their initial collegiate impacts in the 400 meters but have now run the hurdles in consecutive weeks as the outdoor season reaches its midpoint. In Saturday's competition Barretta posted a time of 55.77 and O'Neill finished in 56.85. There are four Wildcats ranked among the top 12 in the BIG EAST in the hurdles so far this season.
One of the highlights of the day at Princton was Villanova running its first 4x100 meter relay race of the season. A lineup that included three freshmen –
Derrick Smith (New Orleans, La.),
Imevar Justice (Summit, N.J.) and
Parker Turner (Los Angeles, Calif.) – along with junior
Connor Dunning (Nashua, N.H.) recorded a time of 41.41. In their individual races later in the afternoon Smith posted a time 11.41 in the 100 meters while Dunning and Justice ran the 200 meters in 22.19 and 22.47, respectively.
Freshman
Matthew Griffin (Whippany, N.J.) posted a time of 50.21 in the 400 meters and was followed by senior
William Seijas (Shrewsbury, N.J.) who had a time of 51.28. Senior
Chris Weeks (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran the 800 meters in 2:02.18.
A lineup that featured O'Neill, freshman
Ethan Walls (Ridgefield, Conn.), Barretta and Griffin won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:17.01 to close out the meet.
In the field events, junior thrower
Tristan Bolinsky (Gordon, Pa.) posted marks of 14.79 meters in the shot put and 45.11 meters in the discus. Sophomore
Daelyn Nwaobasi (Nashville, Tenn.) registered a mark of 6.07 meters in the long jump.
