LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Villanova men's swimming and diving team brought home its first win of the season against Rider 152-146. The 'Cats finished with 7 first-place finishes and 23 top-three finishes on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman
Owen Nye had an outstanding performance with two first place finishes. In the 1000 free He touched the wall in 9:29.64 for the 1000 free and also clocked a 4:40.48 win in the 500 free. Joining Nye in the top-three of the 1000 free was
Patrick Casey in second at 9:37.80 and
Brady Tierney in third at 9:50.14
Justin Nowicki took first in the 200 fly, touching the wall at 1:48.73. Freshman
Melson Arquillano was right behind him in second with a time of 1:52.54.
Zach Sutter was able to grab second in the 50 free (21.24) and
Patrick Hemingway took third (21.27). Hemingway also achieved first place in the 100 free with a time of 46.47.
The 'Cats swept the top three sports in the 200 IM with
Max Christensen leading the trio at 1:52.91. Following him was Nowicki in second (1:54.16) and
Aiden Bunker in third (1:57.18).
Senior
Aubrey Bowles finished first in the 200 back, touching the wall at 1:50.40 with Josh Seidmen taking third (1:54.30). Christensen grabbed second place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.23 while
Henry Halloran took third timing in at 2:06.66. Aquillano was able to place second in the 100 fly, clocking in at 50.32. Representing the Wildcats in the 200 free was
Gavin Jones who finished third with a time of 1:42.54.
On the diving side,
Chris Jones and
Nicholas Jubilee came in strong. Jones finished the 1 meter dive in second with a score of 253.65 and Jubilee placed third with a score of 249.45. The 3 meter dive victory went to Jubilee scoring 289.65 with Jones following him in second with a score or 277.28.
The 400 free relay A team of
Mikey Thurk,
Gavin Jones, Hemingway and Sutter took second, finishing with a 3:04.80. The B team of
Henry Gingrich,
Kaden Elkovitch,
Gavin Peck and Seidman finished just behind them with a third-place 3:07.09. Villanova's A team in the 200 medley relay grabbed third with quartet of
Cole Gorsuch, Sutter, Thurk and Hemingway timing in at 1:32.61.
The 'Cats are back in action Friday at the Villanova Swim Complex hosting NJIT. Diving will start at 4pm with swimming to follow.
