HAVERFORD, Pa.—Villanova swept the first four spots and had seven of the top 11 finishers overall in a three-mile run at the Main Line Invitational on Friday afternoon. Junior
Sadie Sigfstead (Edmonton, Alta.) led the Wildcats charge with a first place finish out of 74 competitors. Her winning time of 16:00.5 is the fastest that any Villanovan has run on the Alumni Course at nearby Haverford College.
Sigfstead was part of an all-junior quartet that paced the field in the local competition which featured runners from Villanova, Penn and La Salle in addition to several other schools in the area.
Emma McGill (Lebanon, N.J.) followed Sigfstead in second place with a time of 16:14.0, while
Margaret Carroll (Mount Wolf, Pa.) and
Emily Robinson (Rogers, Ark.) finished third (17:11.5) and fourth (17:19.7), respectively. There were 11 Wildcats in all who competed in the race.
The times posted by Sigfstead and McGill are each among the five fastest on Villanova's performance list at the three-mile distance, which the team typically only runs early in the year in meets at Haverford. Sigfstead eclipsed the Wildcats fastest previous time on the course which was 16:03.0 and was set by
Caroline Alcorta at the same meet in 2018. Alcorta went on to be the BIG EAST individual champion that season and tallied a top-three finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
