CLEMSON, S.C.—Senior hurdler
Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.) lowered her top time of the season in the 60 meter hurdles in two rounds of competition at the Tiger Paw Invite on Friday afternoon. Livingston ran in the preliminary and semifinal heats of the hurdles as Villanova opened two days of competition with a small group of athletes at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
It was in the semifinal round of the hurdles that Livingston tallied her season-best time of 8.32. She has previously run 8.36 at the Penn State National Open last month in a race which also occurred in a semifinal heat. Livingston began the day ranked second in the BIG EAST and tied for 68
th nationally in the 60 meter hurdles this season. Her time on Friday moved her to within one-hundredth of a second of the leading BIG EAST time of 8.31.
Competition began on Friday with the preliminary heats in the hurdles. Livingston ran in the fourth of eight heats and placed fourth in her section with a time of 8.44 to advance on time to the semifinals. In her second race of the day just over two hours later she lowered her time to 8.32, finishing sixth in her heat and 14
th overall.
Livingston ranks fourth in school history in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best mark of 8.25 set at this same meet at Clemson last season. She is also the defending BIG EAST champion and a two-time All-BIG EAST performer outdoors in the 100 meter hurdles.
Villanova will close out the Clemson meet with two field events on Saturday morning. Junior women's high jumper
Roschell Clayton (Montego Bay, Jamaica) will be in action along with graduate student men's triple jumper
Malik Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica). Each of their events begins at 10 a.m.
