GAINESVILLE, Fla.—A trio of middle distance runners posted impressive times in the 800 meters as Villanova wrapped up competition in the Pepsi Florida Relays at James G. Pressly Stadium on Saturday evening. Graduate
McKenna Keegan (West Grove, Pa.) opened up her outdoor campaign after being a first team All-American indoors and she led the contingent of Wildcats with a time of 2:03.19 to finish second overall in Saturday's race.
Keegan ran in the fastest heat of the 800 meters and posted the second-fastest time in the nation for the current season. She trailed only Imogen Barrott from the host Gators who crossed the finish line in 2:02:02, while Keegan's time is the third-fastest she has run in a collegiate race and puts her atop the BIG EAST leaderboard for the season by just over three-tenths of a second.
Junior
Madison Martinez (Gahanna, Ohio) and freshman
Maya Dorer (New York, N.Y.) raced in the second heat on Saturday, with Martinez winning the heat in 2:05.87 and Dorer coming in with a personal best time of 2:08.51. Martinez came within less than two-tenths of a second of her lifetime PR which was set during the 2021 outdoor collegiate season, while Dorer lowered her previous top mark in the 800 meters by nearly two full seconds. She had run 2:10.48 indoors at the BIG EAST Championships just over a month ago.
Also in action for Villanova on the final day of the Florida Relays was graduate thrower
Jul Thomson (Otterville, Ont.) who recorded a throw of 12.44 meters in the shot put.
