PRINCETON, N.J.—Junior sprinter
Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.) highlighted the Villanova results on the final day of the Larry Ellis Invitational with a first place finish and a new personal best time in the 100 meter hurdles at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Livingston moved up to sixth place in school history in the hurdles and also ran the 200 meters during the meet. Saturday's event schedule for the Wildcats included competition in the 100 meter hurdles, 200 meters, pole vault, shot put and discus.
Livingston was the top finisher in both the preliminary heats and the final of the hurdles. She paced a field of 25 athletes with a time of 13.73 in the first round before coming back later in the afternoon to win the final with a personal best time of 13.55. That mark put her 32
nd on this year's East Region performance list and moved her up four spots into No. 6 in the Villanova record book. Livingston previously ran 13.79 for the Wildcats as a sophomore last season, while her lifetime best before Saturday's meet was 13.57 and had been recorded during her scholastic career.
In the opening round of the hurdles senior
Jada Thomas (Kingston, Jamaica) came in fifth overall with a season-best time of 14.20. The final individual track event for Villanova on Saturday afternoon was the 200 meters in which Livingston, Thomas and junior
Alexis Martin (Gaithersburg, Md.) were all in action. Livingston led the Wildcats trio with a time of 25.41, followed by Martin (25.90) and Thomas (26.37) at the finish line.
Graduate throwers
Sade Meeks (North Babylon, N.Y.) and
Jul Thomson (Otterville, Ont.) led Villanova in the shot put and the discus, respectively. Meeks finished fifth out of 21 competitors in the shot put and her mark of 14.42 meters is the seventh-longest outdoor throw in school history. She is already the Wildcats record holder in the shot put with a distance of 15.50 meters recorded indoors. Meeks has set Villanova records in the shot put, the weight throw and the hammer while competing for the Wildcats this year.
Thomson finished eighth in the discus with a season best mark of 44.25 meters and placed 12
th in the shot put with a throw of 12.52 meters. Freshman thrower
Faith Haught (Payson, Ariz.) registered a mark of 41.21 meters in the discus. The final field athlete in action for Villanova on Saturday was senior
Ashley Preston (Franklinville, N.J.) who tied for an 11
th place finish in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 3.66 meters.
Coming up next week the Wildcats will compete in the Virginia Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
