Golf Concludes Ross Collegiate In Ninth Place

Southern Pines, NC - After a windy first day of action, the Villanova Wildcats settled in on day two of the Ross Collegiate Classic and finished in ninth place. A final round score of 9-over par (297) was the best round of the tournament for the 'Cats, after scores of 299 and 300 (896). 

This is the second consecutive year Villanova has competed in the Ross Collegiate Classic, fairing much better in the second go around. In 2021, the team shot +63 and finished in 12th place of 13 teams. 

For Villanova, sophomore Peter Weaver carded the best score, tying for seventh place, shooting even. Over all three rounds, the Frontneac, Missouri native was consistent shooting 72 in each, totaling 216 for the tournament. On the front nine of round one, he recorded three birdies, ending with eight total, along with one eagle. 

Senior Noah Peck started the tournament strong, with a birdie and eagle on the front nine of round one, he ended the first round 1-under par. Peck finished the tournament tied for 25th with a score of 7-over par (71-75-77, 223). 

Tying for 31st place was graduate student Matthew Copeland. After recording five birdies and scoring even in the third and final round, Copeland carded a 9-over par (77-76-72, 225) for the tournament. 

Jonathan Elkins, who competed as an individual, shot 16-over par (78-77-77, 232) tying for 66th, while Luke Alexander finished at 17-over par (79-77-77, 233). Rounding out the Wildcats lineup was Vimal Alokam, who improved his score each round finishing tied for 89th. The freshman shot rounds of 84, 78 and 76, to shoot 238 after three days of action. 

Seton Hall claimed first place out of the 17 competing universities, with a team score of 873. With scores of 298, 288 and 287, they finished at 9-over par. North Carolina's Kenan Poole and Princeton's William Huang tied for first place at 6-under par (210). Poole shot 5-under par in the final round (67). Huang led all competitors with 17 total birdies. 

The Wildcats will have a two week break before they return to action, on Monday, March 28. They will head to the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, hosted by William and Mary.
