Southern Pines, NC - In their first tournament of the spring, the Villanova Wildcats sit in a tie for fifth place at the Ross Collegiate Classic. All play was suspended due to darkness midway through the second round. The 'Cats have shot 16-over par partially through round two, posting a 299 in the first go around.
Of the 17 competing teams and 108 total student-athletes, Villanova has two of their own tied for 12th after suspension of play. Senior
Noah Peck and sophomore
Peter Weaver both sit at 1-over par, with Peck completing 12 holes in the second round, while Weaver has finished 11. Peck recorded an eagle on the fifth hole in round one. Both have tallied five birdies to this point.
Graduate student
Matthew Copeland shot 6-over par through 12 holes in the second round, tied for 34th place. Copeland has 20 pars through 30 holes, best among all Wildcats competing in the tournament.
Jonathan Elkins, who is competing as an individual, and
Luke Alexander both sit at 8-over par. Alexander has completed 31 holes, while Elkins has gotten to the eighth hole in the second round. Rounding out the Villanova lineup is
Vimal Alokam, after posting a 17-over par. The freshman has completed the most holes for Villanova, stopping play at the 14th hole in the second round.
Elon currently sits atop the leaderboard shooting 9-over par after play was suspended, shooting 292 in the first round. Brandon Berry of Loyola (Md.) leads all individuals at 5-under par, totaling 11 birdies through 33 holes.
