Williamsburg, Va. -
Peter Weaver earned his second career individual victory on Tuesday, finishing the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate 1-over par. Villanova finished the tournament in fifth, with a team score of 905 at the par 71, 6817-yard Golden Horseshoe Gold Course.
The
Frontneac, Missouri native Weaver carded a 214 for the tournament, and his 1-over par third round kept him one stroke ahead of second place.
"Everyone is so happy for Peter," said head coach
James Wilkes. "You can tell from the leaderboard just how impressive his performance was, with only seven players managed single digit over par scores. It was really cool to two of the BIG EAST's best golfers battling until the last putt to win the title."
On his way to claiming his victory, Weaver finished with the second most pars (38) and the best score on all par-3s, shooting even. The sophomore recorded a first-round score of 4-under par, with three birdies on the front nine. Weaver's first career victory came early in the fall, at the Doc Gimmler in September, when he signed a 4-under par for the tournament.
The Wildcats score of +53 put them one stroke behind fourth place, as all 15 competing institutions battled the weather on both days.
Wilkes continued, "We're proud of how the guys handled some tough conditions this week. There was a lot going on out on the course, a lot of trouble combined with the wind and the low temperatures made it tough on everyone. Everyone kept grinding till the final hole and showed what Villanova golf is all about."
Matthew Copeland carded the second-best score for the 'Cats, tying for 15
th at 12-over par. His second-round score of 72 was his best, posting three birdies in the round.
Tying for 42

Competing as an individual, senior
Matt Davis finished in 52
nd, with a combined score of 238 after three rounds. He improved his score each round, finishing with a 78 in round three.
Rounding out the Villanova lineup were junior

Georgetown (+37) finished in second also with four of their own in the top-20, while William O'Neill came in second overall shooting +2.
