Second day at NCAA Championships brings another Montesi program record

Kelly Montesi reset 100 Back record that had stood for five years

ATLANTA – For the second time in as many days, Kelly Montesi reset another program record, this time knocking down the best 100 Back time during her second day at the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the McCauley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.

The senior touched the wall in 52.45, besting the previous Villanova-best mark of 52.96 set by Darby Goodwin in relay action at the 2017 BIG EAST Championships. As for Montesi, she beat her own personal best by nearly two seconds. Her previous mark was 54.05 set at the WVU Invitational earlier this season. She now holds two of the top-10 fastest 100 Back times in team history.

Montesi logged the fastest time in her heat, landing her at 30th after the prelims.

The final day of competition turns Montesi's attention to the 200 Back, an event she set the BIG EAST record in at the conference championships three weeks ago with a time of 1:53.25. She heads into the event as the 20th seed. Prelims will get underway at 10 a.m. followed by final at 6 p.m.
