Montesi resets program's 200 IM record at NCAA Championships

The senior still has two more days of competition ahead of her

ATLANTA – In her first of three days of competition at the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Kelly Montesi knocked down the program's 200 IM record on Thursday morning at the McCauley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

The Greenwich, Conn.-native touched the wall in 1:58.98 during the morning prelims, besting her previous personal-best of 1:59.24 that she swam at the BIG EAST Championships exactly three weeks prior. She also jumped past Darby Goodwin's 1:59.20 that set the program record at the 2018 BIG EAST Championships. With her swim, Montesi now owns four of the top-10 fastest times in program history, two of those being top-five marks.

Montesi had the fastest time in her heat, edging out Florida State's Edith Jernstedt by five-hundredths of a second. She finished in 55th through the prelims.

Friday brings the 100 Back for Montesi. Prelims are set for 10 a.m. with finals later on at 6 p.m. A live stream of the event can be found on ESPN3.
