Volleyball Sweeps Seton Hall in Season Finale

'Cats dominate Pirates and pick up straight-set victory to end year

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Villanova women's volleyball ended its 2022 season on a high note on Saturday, taking down the Seton Hall Pirates in straight sets (26-24, 25-13, 25-11).

"I'm really happy that we could send our seniors off with a win on Senior Night and again tonight in their last match of the year," head coach Josh Steinbach said.

Tara Garvey paced the 'Cats with 14 kills, while Kiera Booth added nine kills for Villanova (10-20, 6-12 BIG EAST). Andrea Campos put up a match-high 30 assists and a career-high four service aces, while defensive specialist Taryn Whittingham also totaled four aces and 11 digs.

Villanova's victory moves the all-time series to a 19-12 VU advantage. The two sides have now traded the last four matches in the series, as each squad has won two of the last four contests.

Seton Hall took an early advantage, but Villanova climbed out of the early three-point deficit to tie the first frame at 11-11. After VU went down 22-19, Garvey went on a 3-0 run of her own and brought the 'Cats back to a tie, but then SHU got to set point at 24-23. Villanova staved that off, though, and rattled off two more points in a row to take the opener.

The Wildcats started the second period strong, getting out to leads of six and seven multiple times. VU kept up the strong momentum throughout the stanza, stifling the Pirates and picking up a lead of two sets to none.

After the two sides were tied at 5-5, Villanova was dominant to close the third frame, using an 18-5 run to take a thirteen-point lead that it would not relinquish. The 'Cats recorded eight service aces in the final period, and moved to a sweep in the season finale.
