Wildcats Defeated by UConn in Road Match

Booth, Crist each tally double-digit kills

STORRS, Conn. – Villanova volleyball suffered a defeat on Wednesday, falling to the UConn Huskies in four sets (17-25, 16-25, 26-24, 22-25) in a midday affair.

Kiera Booth once again led Villanova (5-14, 1-6 BIG EAST) with 13 kills, while Rose Crist totaled 12 terminations on the day.

Riley Homer put up seven kills and eight digs, Belle Morgan notched a team-high 26 assists, and Elizabeth Feczko paced the 'Cats defensively with nine digs.

UConn established an advantage early in the match, going up 10-6 in the opening set. The 'Cats closed the gap to two at multiple points throughout the frame, but couldn't catch Connecticut as the hosts won 25-17.

The Huskies took three points in a row to start the second, but a 4-0 VU run gave Villanova its first lead of the match. UConn snatched back momentum and took 19 of the next 25 points, moving on to a 25-16 victory.

It was a back-and-forth third set as neither team could establish a large lead until VU went up 20-15 thanks to a 7-0 scoring run. Despite the Huskies tying the score at 24-24, the Wildcats picked up two straight points to get a 26-24 set win.

The fourth frame saw a good deal of hitting errors from each side, as 18 attacking mistakes were totaled in the set. Villanova used a 7-0 scoring run to go up 13-6 in the stanza, but on the brink of a decisive set five, the Huskies went on a 9-1 run of their own to take a 23-21 lead. UConn carried that momentum into the end of the period, taking two of the final three points to secure a four set victory.

UP NEXT: The 'Cats will remain in New England, making a trip to Rhode Island for a contest against the Providence Friars at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
