PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Senior thrower
Jack Judge (Palisades, N.Y.) came in third in his section of the javelin, freshman triple jumper
Malik Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) tallied a seventh place finish in the championship section of his event and the men's 4xMile relay squad finished sixth in their Championship of America race at Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon. The three events wrapped up competition at the 125
th Penn Relays, which drew more than 110,000 fans over the three-day carnival. A packed crowd of 48,195 was on hand for Saturday's final day.
Judge had the best finish of the day for the Wildcats, as his throw of 63.51 meters in the javelin was his second-longest of the season. He surpassed 60 meters on each of his first three throws and was never outside of the top nine competitors in the field who moved on to take three additional throws. Judge recorded his best effort of the day on his third attempt, with the distance trailing only his season-best throw of 63.59 meters from the season-opening Penn Challenge last month.
In his first collegiate Penn Relays experience, Cunningham competed for a championship in the triple jump. The competition was held with a stiff breeze blowing across Franklin Field and Cunningham registered a mark of 14.63 meters for the day. That distance came on his second jump of the day, while he also tallied marks of 14.39 meters and 14.60 meters in his later jumps.
The day concluded with the 4xMile relay, in which Villanova fielded a lineup that included graduate student
Nathan Rodriguez (Tempe, Ariz.) leading off followed by juniors
Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.),
Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) and
Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.). They ran the race in 16:47.10 to finish sixth in a stacked field of teams.
Rodriguez was racing for the first time in nearly a year and was also making his Wildcats debut, having found out only the morning of the race that he would be running to complete a successful comeback from injuries over the past year. He posted a split of 4:11.7 for his leg of the race. Marston had a split of 4:16.3 for the second leg of the race, Wetzel ran the third leg in 4:11.3 and Comber anchored with a split of 4:07.5.
