Smith Runs 3000 Meters on First Night of Colonial Relays

March 31, 2017

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Freshman distance runner Jacquelyn Smith (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) competed for Villanova on the opening night of the 52nd Annual Berkeley Realty Colonial Relays on Thursday evening. Smith ran the 3000 meters and posted a time of 10:14.39 to place 18th in a field of 45 runners. The race marked the first time she ran the 3000 meters in collegiate competition.

Action at the Colonial Relays will be in full swing starting on Friday afternoon. Due to a forecast for rain during much of the meet, there were several schedule changes announced late Thursday night. They include moving all sections of the high jump and the pole vault to Saturday to ensure more advantageous weather. In addition, the 100 meter hurdles and the 110 meter hurdles will be run as straight finals on Friday afternoon. They were originally scheduled to have preliminary heats on Friday followed by a final on Saturday.
