Early Run Lifts Wildcats over Bucknell 13-8

Villanova used strong defense and a career high five goals by Jack Curran to defeat the Bucknell Bison by a final of 13-8 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bison jumped out to an early two goal led less than two minutes into the game but the Wildcats went on a six goal run to secure a lead that they would keep for the rest of the game. Curran completed a hat trick in the first quarter, netting the three other goals were John Kluh, Danny Seibel, and Devin McNamara. Villanova was up 6-3 at the end of one.

Jake Froccaro netted the only two goals in the second quarter, both were assisted by Curran and put the Cats up by five at halftime.

Curran and Jake Froccaro started off the second half the way they ended the first, this time is was Jake Froccaro who found Curran for the goal. Bucknell's Connor O'Hara scored two goals in the final minutes of the quarter both on passes from Will Sands. Sand's finished with a team high five points all on assists.

Villanova outscored Bucknell 4-3 in the final quarter. To get things started Jake Froccaro completed a hat trick on a dish from McNamara. Next it was McNamara himself who would score followed minutes later by a Jake Froccaro shot that found the back of the net. Curran netted his fifth goal, a career high, with just over a minute to play to make the final 13-8. Christian Cuccinello was credited for the assists on the final three goals of the game.

The Wildcats were able to cause eight turnover's both Cuccinello and Jake Froccaro had two. Jake went 11-for-19 (.579) from the X and had a team high eight ground balls. Kurtis Naslonski collected three ground balls while Danny Sweeney and Patrick Kennedy had two apiece.

Nick Testa played all 60 minutes in goal for the Wildcats and finished with seven saves, tying his career high. He currently has a 12.70 goals against average and .359 save percentage.

Villanova will now travel to Fairfield for their final non-conference game of the season. Faceoff in Connecticut is set for 1:00 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3.

Notes: At the 13:19 mark of the third quarter when Curran scored his fourth goal of the game he moved into fifth all-time in career points. He currently has 152 points on 87 goals and 65 assists. Joining him in the record books is Jake Froccaro who has taken over 100 faceoff's and is now ranked eight all-time in face-off winning percentage.
