STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Sophomore distance runner Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) joined both the national leaders for the current indoor season as well as the all-time Villanova leaders in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:09.59 at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Saturday night. Hutchinson highlighted the Villanova Invitational with a big win in the 3000 meters, and the Wildcats registered a number of strong finishes during their final home meet of the season.

Hutchinson, sophomore Bella Burda (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) and Henna Rustami of Columbia were the top contenders in an exciting final of the 3000 meters. Hutchinson powered to the win by recording a time of 9:09.59, which ranks her sixth in the nation on this year's performance list. That mark also puts Hutchinson into ninth place on the all-time Villanova indoor list in the 3000 meters. She had a PR of 4:37.63 in the Mile at the Villanova Open last week and now ranks in the top two in the BIG EAST this season in both events.

The three leading runners in the 3000 meters broke away from the rest of the pack by the midpoint of the race. Burda wound up finishing third and also recorded a personal best time by crossing the finish line in 9:20.15. She was followed by junior Katie Fisher (Uxbridge, Ont.) in fifth place and redshirt freshman Ann Campbell (Mission Hills, Kan.) in sixth. The pair each set personal bests with times of 9:43.65 and 9:48.19, respectively.

Two of the Wildcats younger runners each fared well in the 800 meters. Freshmen McKenna Keegan (West Grove, Pa.) and Jacqueline Smith (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) came in fifth and eighth, respectively, in a field of 26 runners. Keegan recorded a time of 2:10.94 and Smith finished in 2:13.21. The junior trio of Nicole Armstrong (Sydenham, Ont.), Rebecca Del Rossi (Canton, N.Y.) and Erin Jaskot (Blauvelt, N.Y.) recorded times of 2:13.49, 2:13.59 and 2:14.16 to finish consecutively in ninth through 11th places.

Freshman sprinter Danielle Burns (Phoenix, Ariz.) twice lowered her personal best time in the 60 meter hurdles during Saturday's meet. She came in fifth out of 32 runners in the preliminary heats with a time of 8.81 seconds, coming in just under the mark of 8.82 she had run last week. Burns then maintained her spot with a fifth place finish and a time of 8.79 in the final.

In the final event of the evening, Burns, junior Katie HoSang (Bedford, N.H.), junior Yazmin Wilson-Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Arielle Massillon (Charlotte, N.C.) finished fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:52.86.

The top results for Villanova in the field events came in the long jump, where senior Ekiah Lewis (San Bernardino, Calif.) came in second with a mark of 5.49 meters.

Next up for the Wildcats is the FastTrack National Invitational, which takes place at Ocean Breeze this coming Friday.
