Final Stats

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Villanova volleyball team fell 25-22, 19-25, 25-14, 25-22 to Butler Friday night in Indianapolis.

The Wildcats (21-6, 11-3 BIG EAST) were led by Claire Crutchfield (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) with 15 kills. Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif./Bonita Vista) and Amanda Pedersen-Henry (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Vista High) were both in double figures with 13 kills and 10 kills, respectively.

Michelle Adams (Sugar Land, Texas/William P. Clements) led the Wildcat defense with 19 digs while Loitz completed a double-double with 16 digs. Allison Fitzgerald (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and Emma Pettit (Ft. Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) each had 11 digs in the loss.

Butler (10-16, 6-7 BIG EAST) was led by Anna Logan with 17 kills and Mary Striedl with a 12 kills and 18 digs.

Butler jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the first set and stretched the lead to six points at 10-4. Villanova came back to tie the score at 14-14 before Butler broke the set open with a 4-0 run to make the score 20-15. The Bulldogs went on to take the set 25-22.

The Wildcats tied the match at a set apiece with a win in the second set. Villanova trailed 13-12 before going on a 5-0 run to lead 17-13. Butler put together a 3-0 late in the set but could not catch up to the Wildcats.

Butler methodically built a 16-11 lead in the third set and opened the lead to 21-11 with a 5-0 run.

In the fourth and final set Butler again led 6-2 early in the set. Villanova worked its way back to tie the score at 16-16. The set was tied later at 21-21 when Butler scored three straight points to take a late advantage.

The Villanova volleyball team is back in action tomorrow (Nov. 7) against Xavier at 7:00pm.
