VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova volleyball team took care of business Friday night in The Jake Nevin Field House with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 straight set win over Providence.

"It was good to get all the seniors in tonight," said Villanova head coach Josh Steinbach. "It was good for them to have a good experience, play well and still be able to take care of business."

The Wildcats (23-7, 13-4 BIG EAST) were led by Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif./Bonita Vista) with 11 kills and Gabby Pethokoukis (Western Springs, Ill./Benet Academy) with 10 kills.

Seniors Brittany Rembert (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) and Colleen Hickey (West Chester, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) had seven kills each and Lauren Carpenter (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) rounded out the offense with six kills.

Providence (10-19, 1-14 BIG EAST) was led by Jordan Wiesler who had 23 assists and just missed a double-double with eight digs.

Villanova scored the first two points of the match to take an early lead in the first set. The Wildcats led 17-13 later in the set when Providence went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 18-17.

The set was tied late, 22-22 when a kill from Hickey and a service ace by Ashley Knight (Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn South High) put the Wildcats ahead for good.

The second set was close in the early goings and was tie 8-8 after 16 points. The Friars jumped ahead with a 3-0 run but Villanova responded with a 6-0 to reclaim the lead, 14-11. Villanova put together a pair of 4-0 runs down the stretch to open the lead to nine points. An ace from Carpenter put an end to the second set.

The third set was similar to the second set as the score was tied 8-8. This time it was the Wildcats turn to go on a 3-0 run to go out front. Another 4-0 run later in the frame opened the lead and the Wildcats cruised to the straight set win. Fittingly, it was Hickey's seventh kill that ended the match in Villanova's favor.

The Villanova volleyball team ends its regular season with a 7:00pm match against St. John's, Saturday night in the Jake Nevin Field House.
