Villanova, Pa. -Villanova Volleyball (11-15, 4-7 BIG EAST) dropped a Saturday night homecoming match against Xavier (14-9, 7-4 BIG EAST) with scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-14. The Wildcat defense was not able to overcome an incredibly accurate Xavier offense that posted an attack percentage of .414 and only six attack errors.
"Xavier played really well tonight," said Head Coach Josh Steinbach. "We just couldn't consistently match the level at which they executed."
Senior Molly O'Neil once again posted a solid night leading the Nova offense with eight kills on 19 total attacks with only 2 errors to post an attack percentage of .316. Junior Colleen Hickey was not far behind with six kills.
Cara Cunningham, Michaela Berendt, Brittany Rembert and Claire Crutchfield all posted five kills to the Wildcat stat sheet.
Starting junior libero Michelle Adams had 10 digs on the night while senior Allie DiBernardo added 8 digs.
DiBernardo split the setting duties with junior Emma Pettit as each Wildcat posted 16 and 14 assists respectively.
The Wildcats on the night got progressively better as the their attack percentage improved from .097, to .167 and finished at .241.
On the night, Villanova posted 34 kills, 102 total attacks, 34 assists, three service aces, 35 digs and one team block.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday Oct. 31 in Rhode Island as they battle the Providence Friars.
