Villanova, Pa. -The Villanova Wildcats improved to 10-11 (3-3 BIG EAST) on the season as they battle their way back over .500 in a four set win against the Georgetown Hoyas (7-12, 1-5 BIG EAST). The Wildcats overtook the Hoyas in four sets with scores of 25-17, 18-25, 25-13 and 25-19.
Multiple Wildcats saw record breaking performances in the win against Georgetown this evening.
Standout player of the night was sophomore Michaela Berendt who logged six kills, a season high five digs and a career and team high five service aces.
Freshman Cara Cunningham recorded a new career high seven blocks against the Hoyas while junior Michelle Adams dug deep 20 times for the Wildcats for a new season high digs against Georgetown.
Junior Colleen Hickey led the Wildcat offense to tie her career and season high 14 kills while fellow junior Lauren Carpenter added her own six kills to the scoreboard.
As a whole, the Wildcats posted a new season high 10 service aces and 13 blocks to make an overall well-rounded Wildcat performance for the evening.
Coach Steinbach and his squad also saw the best point margin in a set for the season as they overtook the Hoyas in the third set by 12 points. The first and third set saw no lead changes and no tied scores as the Wildcats were able to dominate with accurate hitting, especially in the third set that saw a stellar attack percentage of .324.
In all, Villanova recorded 47 kills, 38 assists, 10 service aces, 57 digs and 13 blocks.
"Our defense was really good this evening, we had great blocking and good balance against Georgetown," said head coach Josh Steinbach. "It feels good to win against Georgetown because it is always a hard fought game and I look forward to seeing how we go against Creighton tomorrow evening."
Creighton took on Seton Hall as the two perfect teams of the BIG EAST battled it out to decide who would finally reign supreme over the ten team field. The Pirates overtook the Bluejays in five sets in a thriller at Seton Hall.
The Wildcats will battle preseason favorites Creighton tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Jake Nevin Field House as Villanova battles to pull even and grab a winning conference record.
