Pittsburgh, Pa. --- On Sunday, Sept. 29 in Big East action, the Villanova Wildcats dropped their second straight conference match to the University of Pittsburgh in three games (30-17, 30-24, 30-16). With the loss, the 'Cats fall even to 9-9 overall and 0-2 in Big East play while the Panthers stay unbeaten at 2-0 in conference action and improve to 12-4 on the season.
Leading the way in defeat for Villanova was sophomore middle blocker Kerri Sullivan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) who tallied a game-high 14 kills and hit .345 on 29 attempts. Rookie Celine Nguyen (Palos Verde Peninsula, Calif./ Palos Verde Peninsula) chipped in with eight kills on 17 attempts and added a team-high 12 digs. In the match, Pittsburgh out-hit the Wildcats .362 to .124. Villanova also struggled offensively committing 26 attack errors in the match.
In the victory for Pittsburgh, Megan Miller recorded 14 kills off 22 attempts to hit .591 while Sarah Rollman tallied 10 kills and eight digs. Megan Mcgrane led the Panthers with 17 digs.
Villanova will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to square off against the University of Pennsylvania in a non-conference battle. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Palestra.
