Villanova, Pa.- On Saturday, March 31, the Villanova men's lacrosse team cruised to a 16-7 victory over the visiting Sacred Heart University Pioneers. Senior Andrew Bogle (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and sophomore Brian Marks (Glenmoore, Pa./ Downingtown) led the way for the Wildcats, scoring five goals apiece. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 4-3 on the year and the loss drops Sacred Heart to 4-4 overall.

Villanova jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on goals from Bogle, David Cacciabeve (Boonton Township, N.J./Delbarton), and Marks. The Sacred Heart offense exploded for three goals in the final two minutes of the first frame knotting the score at 3-3 at the end of the quarter.

Bogle and the Wildcats wasted little time re-establishing their offensive presence in the second frame. Bogle scored his first of three second quarter goals when Marks connected with Bogle just 0:45 into the quarter giving Villanova the lead for good.

Sacred Heart opened the second half with a goal by freshman Garrett Bamann, cutting the Wildcats lead to 7-5, but Villanova responded with nine unanswered goals, including four from Marks. Marks' five goal and three assist effort gives him 15 goals and 15 assists, both team-highs.

Senior goalkeepers Matt Wilk (seven saves) and Michael Mullette (five saves) helped preserve the victory by holding the Pioneers scoreless for over 22 minutes in the second half.

Villanova will return to action on Tuesday, April 3, when they travel to Johns Hopkins for a match-up against the No. 5 ranked team in the country. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m
