Volleyball Drops Big East Match to Syracuse

After winning the first set 30-24, the Villanova Volleyball team would drop the next three games to Syracuse University in a Big East match played at the Manley Field House in Syracuse, N.Y. The final score for the match was 24-30, 30-28, 30-15, and 30-20.

Despite the loss, two different Wildcats posted career-high numbers on the day. Senior blocker Jackie Fugiel led the Wildcat attack with a career-high 22 of 35 kills for a .600 hitting percentage while redshirt-freshman Jennifer Badran-Grycan set a career-high 58 assists. Junior hitter Leah Matthews (Poway, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) and freshman Kerri Sullivan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) each added 12 kills for Villanova.

Syracuse was led by Carol Munger with 16 kills and setter Noreen Carroll who tallied 46 assists, 10 kills and five digs.

Witth the loss, the 'Cats drop to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in Big East play as Syracuse improves to an overall 9-9 and 2-5 in conference action.

Villanova will return home on Friday, Oct. 19 when they play host to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the Jake Nevin Field House. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
