Wildcat Women Win Second Meet in Two Days

ANNAPOLIS, MD-- On Saturday, Jan. 27, the Villanova University women's swimming & diving team traveled to Annapolis, Md., for the team's second meet in two days. The Wildcat women defeated Navy, 180-188, in their final dual-meet of the 2000-01 season.

The big winner on the day for the `Cats was senior Kristen Olson, who tallied victories in three events. Olson recorded wins in the 100 (59.27) and 200 yard freestyle (2:05.88) events, as well as the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.10). Freshman Katie Shipe was also a dual winner, taking home victories in the 200 yard backstroke (2:23.09), and the 200 yard individual medley (2:26.23).

Six other Wildcats also posted wins in Saturday's meet. Senior Kate Volz won the 800 yard freestyle (9:08.34). Junior Brooke Corby placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke, crossing the finish line in 1:15.86. Sophomore Ashley Ellis registered a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly (2:22.47). Sophomore Maddy Crippen posted her seventh win in three meets, tallying a first place time of 2:38.71 in the 200 yard breaststroke. Sophomore Andie Scelsi brought home a first place finish in the 400 yard freestyle (4:29.08). And freshman Moira Durkin took first place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.64).

On the diving front, freshman Amy Sfara qualified for the Big East Championships in the one-meter dive. Sfara placed second in the meet with a score of 240.29.

On Feb. 10, Villanova will participate in the Big East Last Chance Meet held at Rutgers University, times to be announced.
