Villanova, Pa. - A Brian Marks goal with :13 left in the first quarter gave the Villanova Wildcats a lead they never relinquished en route to a 12-7 victory over the Fairfield Stags in a game played Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.
Villanova jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first quarter on goals by Chris Larson and Andrew Bogle. Marks then scored the first of his three goals on the day to give Villanova the edge. Goals by Brian Marks and Justin Marks in the second quarter made it a 5-2 Villanova lead at the half.
Any hopes of a Stag rally were dashed early in the third period, when the 'Cats strung three goals together in the span of 1:46. Two of those goals were scored by Tom Hourican.
Brian Marks led Villanova with the three goals and two assists on the day. Senior Eric Dauer also scored three goals while Larson scored two and added an assist. Jack McTigue was credited with three assists on the day. Goalie Matt Wilk made 15 saves in the Wildcat net.
Fairfield was led by Rob Scipioni and Mark Beckwith, each of whom had two goals.
Villanova improves to 6-3 on the season and next sees action on April 12 at Pennsylvania in a 7:00 p.m. start.
