Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova men's lacrosse team hosted the Lafayette College Leopards tonight in non-conference action. The Wildcats jumped ahead early with a 5-2 lead after one quarter and they never looked back as they prevailed 16-5. The victory evens the 'Cats 2000 record at 2-2, while Lafayette falls to 1-1 on the season. Freshman attackman Brian Marks started off the game's scoring as he netted an unassisted goal at 13:42 of the first quarter. Senior Clayton Greene came back at 11:48 to score his first goal of the season to give the 'Cats a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish. After taking a 5-2 advantage into the second quarter, the Wildcats outscored Lafayette 6-1 in the second stanza to post an 11-3 lead at the half. Beginning with Chris Larson's goal off of a pass from senior tri-captain Jack McTigue at 9:56 of the second period, the Wildcats scored five straight goals to end the half.
Villanova scored the only two goals of the third quarter as senior Tom Lasky and the freshman Marks scored to increase the Villanova lead to 13-3. With Lasky's goal at 14:03 of the fourth quarter, 'Nova scored its eighth consecutive goal. Finally, Lafayette got back into the scoring column with two goals, but the Wildcats made sure they got those two back as Justin Marks and Pete Franchetti closed out the game's scoring.
The Wildcats next game will be Saturday, March 18, at 3:00pm as they host Dartmouth College.
