Villanova, Pa. - On Friday, October 20, the Villanova Wildcat volleyball team traveled to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to battle Big East foe Boston College. The Eagles defeated Villanova in three straight games, by the scores of 15-4, 15-12, 15-4. With the loss Villanova falls to 8-14 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The victory improves Boston College to 8-13 overall and 2-3 in the Big East.
Leading the way for Villanova was senior Breen Eddinger (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep). Eddinger paced the Wildcat attack with 10 kills on the evening. Joining her in the offensive efforts were fellow seniors Ruth Ann Blankenheim (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Lisa Trumbull (Rockford, Ill./Keith School). Blankenheim recorded nine kills with Trumbull adding seven.
Assisting the offense was freshman setter Jennifer Edwards (Valencia, Calif./Valencia). Edwards handed out 20 helpers in the match.
Defensively for the Wildcats Blankenheim and Eddinger each accumulated nine digs. Sophomore Leah Mathews (Poway, Calif./Our Lady of Peace), Edwards and Trumbull each tallied seven digs in the effort.
Villanova will be in action next on October 22 against Providence
