On Saturday, Jan. 22, in a meet at the University of Pittsburgh, the Villanova University men and women's swimming & diving teams both recorded third place finishes. The Wildcat men finished with 120 points, ranking them third behind Pittsburgh (452) and Maryland (411). The Villanova women also placed third with 222 points, behind Maryland (465) and Pittsburgh (362).
Junior Diver Brian Mulligan won in yet another meet, by finishing first in the one-meter dive with 270.35 points. Mulligan placed fifth in the three meter dive. Sophomore swimmer Greg King registered a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, crossing the finish line in 1:52.53.
Junior Kate Volz was the big winner for the Wildcat women on Saturday afternoon. Volz won two events, placing first in the 500 yard freestyle (4:58.90), and first in the 1,650 yard freestyle (17:00.25). Junior Kristen Olson also contributed a victory, winning the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.75). Olson also tallied a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (52.39).
Sophomore Brooke Corby put together a solid day with two second place finishes and one third. Corby finished second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:09.54) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:21.86). She was also third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.35).
In relay competition, the Villanova 200 yard freestyle relay team of seniors Tara Brock and Julie Lapinsky, Olson and freshman Katie Long placed second in 1:37.67.
The Wildcats will get back into action on Saturday, Jan. 29, traveling to Charlottesville to take on the University of Virginia.
