Wildcats Sweep Final Match of Villanova Volleyball Classic

Villanova, Pa.--- On Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Villanova Volleyball Classic in Jake Nevin Field House, the Villanova volleyball team avenged its morning loss to Cornell by sweeping Colgate, 3-0 (15-7, 15-7, 16-14), in their final match of the tournament. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 7-8 overall on the season.

Up 11-7 in game one, Villanova rattled off four straight points to start the match off with a 15-7 victory. In game two, the Wildcats were down 4-0 early, but went on a 10-0 run to open up a 10-4 lead. Villanova closed out the match winning 15-7, on a service ace by junior Breen Eddinger, her second of the match.

The Wildcats found themselves down again in game three, 5-4, before a 6-0 run helped them to take a 10-5 lead. The Red Raiders rallied to take a 14-13 lead, but Villanova finished strong and on a kill by Eddinger, ended the match with a 16-14 game three win.

Eddinger followed her 31-kill effort in the day's first match with 15 kills and seven digs in the Wildcats' win over Colgate. Tallying double figures in kills as well, was sophomore Jackie Fugiel with 12.

Villanova will resume play on Tuesday, Sept. 28, hosting Pennsylvania at 7:00 p.m.
