Villanova Volleyball Defeated By Cornell

Villanova, Pa.--- In the first match of the day in the Villanova Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 25, the Villanova University volleyball team lost in four games to Cornell University, 3-1, by the scores of 15-6, 7-15, 10-15, 14-16. With the loss, the Wildcats' record falls to 6-8 on the season, while the Big Red improves to 5-4.

Villanova won the first game of the day, 15-6, but Cornell came back to win the second two games to take a 2-1 lead in the match. With the fourth game tied at 14-14, the Big Red rallied to score the game's final two points and claim a three games to one victory.

Playing brilliantly in the loss for the Wildcats was junior Breen Eddinger, who recorded a game-high 31 kills to go along with 10 digs, one block solo and three block assists. In double figures in kills as well were freshman Erin Birunas with 12 kills (to go with 23 digs), and sophomore Jackie Fugiel with 10 kills. Senior setter Stacey Moline notched a game-high 61 assists for the 'Cats.

Robin Moore led Cornell to victory, as she had 25 kills and 14 digs. Venessa Gonzalez Vinas posted 15 kills and 17 digs, while Jennifer Borncamp had 10 kills and nine digs. Leading the Big Red in assists was Venessa Richlin with 50.

Villanova will resume play Saturday afternoon, Sept. 25, playing Colgate at 3:00 p.m.
