Villanova, Pa.--- At the Jake Nevin Field House on Wednesday, Sept. 22, the Villanova University volleyball team defeated the University of Delaware, 3-0, winning in three straight games by the scores of 15-6, 15-11, and 15-12. With the victory, the Wildcats record improves to 5-7 overall on the season, including a 2-0 mark at home.
In the match, senior setter Stacey Moline reached a milestone only three other Wildcats have ever reached. Moline went over the 2,500 assist mark for her outstanding Main Line career. She finished the match with 19 assists, giving her 327 for the season.
Leading the 'Cats to victory on this day were juniors Breen Eddinger and Tina Zitterich, who each recorded game-highs of 13 kills. Zitterich also had one block solo and six block assists. Tallying double figures in kills as well for Villanova was freshman Erin Birunas with 10 kills. Coming off the bench in the third game for the Wildcats, junior setter Erin Pfotzer had a team-high 24 assists.
For Delaware (2-10) in the loss, Margaret Lapinsky had 12 kills and 10 digs, while Jennifer Wanner recorded 10 kills and four digs.
The Wildcats will resume play on Friday, Sept. 24, as they host the Villanova Classic. Villanova will play St. Peters on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 25, the 'Cats will play Cornell at 10:00 a.m. and Colgate at 3:00 p.m.
