Villanova Defeats North Texas in TCU Invitational

In the first round of the TCU Invitational on Friday, Sept. 17, in Fort Worth, Texas, the Villanova volleyball team defeated North Texas 3-1 (16-14, 15-2, 12-15, 15-11). With the victory, the Wildcats improve their record to 4-5 overall on the season.

In the first game of the match, the score was tied 14-14, before two straight kills by Wildcat freshman Erin Birunas sealed the game for Villanova. Birunas finished the first game with five kills, while junior Breen Eddinger tallied six. The Wildcats dominated game two, 15-2, behind three more kills by Eddinger and five assists by senior setter Stacey Moline.

The Lady Eagles of North Texas rallied to take the third game of the match, 15-12, but Villanova closed out the match by taking the fourth game, 15-11. Eddinger led the Wildcats with a team-high 15 kills in the match, followed by Birunas with 12. Moline had an outstanding match as well for Villanova with 23 assists.

For North Texas, Jess Folmer Brown had a game-high 17 kills. Setter Daniella Grimaldo had 35 assists to go along with 11 digs.

Villanova will get back into action on Saturday, Sept. 18, playing Stephen F. Austin at 3:00 p.m, and TCU at 7:00 p.m.
